My name is Angela and I’m a registered Psychotherapist. Sometimes people wonder what a psychotherapist is, and I like to tell them that psychotherapists attempt to use different methods to help people keep, maintain or reclaim their mental health. Most often I use different talk-therapy methods such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, solution-focused brief therapy, and mindfulness, and often I will suggest the use of a combination that best fits the client. I believe very much in an individual’s ability to help themselves and that you, the client, are the expert in your own life. This leads to the key to any therapy - a readiness to seek help in one’s mental health journey. Congratulations on taking that first vital step – exploring your options for therapy.

My journey to the field of mental health was not a straight shot. I first began my studies in Molecular Genetics and wound my way to business. I worked in the business world for several years as well as during my schooling to become a therapist. I decided to change to mental health when I did some soul-searching and remembered my childhood dream of helping others. This is when I listened to my grandpa’s saying (which is attributed to Dolly Parton, Thomas S. Monson, Bertha Calloway, and more) and “…adjusted my sails.”

I took my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology through Yorkville University, a private university based out of New Brunswick, Canada. After completing an 8-month practicum placement with the former, Family Counselling and Support Services – Guelph Wellington, I graduated in 2020. In addition to my practicum placement, I have also worked for a mental health team as part of a doctor’s office and welcomed a couple of young people into the world too! With work-life balance in mind, I have embarked on the opportunity to provide virtual mental health services. During the early years of my children’s lives, I hope to work part-time and grow my business further once they are in school full-time.

I enjoy inclusivity and am happy to work with any client who falls within my scope of practice. My professional areas of interest include:

• Anger concerns

• Anxiety

• Bereavement

• Burnout

• Chronic illness

• Chronic pain

• Depression

If you don’t see what concerns you listed here and feel that we would be a good fit – please reach out. If we don’t seem to be a well-suited match or your concern is outside of my scope of practice, I will be happy to try and find someone else for you to work with.

Thank you for taking the time to read this bio and I hope we can work together to achieve your mental health goals.
